I was checking out one of the sites I like to visit every month or so and found out about a contest for furry stories. There's one contest every season and the theme changes. The summer theme is beaches/oceans so I was inspired to write. This is my entry for The WatchingStone Summer '05 AnthroStory contest, closing date August 31st, 2005
The Heart ALways Finds Home

So despite not winning the summer entry I decided to do fall, with the theme of apples. Here's my entry for that, closing date November 30, 2005
To Your Health

Well, I didn't win that one either. There was a long break and then I discovered that the contest had changed sites due to new ownership. I debated with myself about entering a third time but this site promised to post the final scores so that the authors could see where they ranked. That was one of the things bothering me about the contest. I knew I hadn't won first or second place as the second place entries made Honorable Mention however was I in last place or third? The subject was transformation and there was an optional plot category as well. I had an idea that involved transformation but not as most writers would have considered it. So I entered. Here's the story.
The Legend of Tal-niene

And no, I didn't win. I came in last place which upset me because I felt I had written better than one of the other entries and most of the comments about my story dealt with minor grammatical errors and a repetitious use of the words "the vixen" rather than using other descriptive phrases. When was the last time anyone read a story which didn't commonly use "the man" or "the woman" or names when the characters were speaking? Besides I ran the story through the grammar and spell checker before submitting it because I know I make a few errors.

Although I could think up a few ideas with the next theme I was also too busy to spare time for writing. Besides that, I have to decide if the audience for this contest is one that I want to write for. I'll take a look at the latest submissions and check out the next theme before deciding permanently.

I just signed up for National Novel Writing Month to see how I would do with a deadline. I want to try to get some of my stories and poems published so to preserve my copyright on them I'm not posting them here. However I do need to find out how I would do if I did get a writing career going and had deadlines I needed to meet. This also sounds like a fun challenge. It is an international competition but as the founders say International Novel Writing Month is harder to get out than National Novel Writing Month. The goal is to start writing November 1st and have 50,000 words done by November 30th. Of course, if you're not finished your novel at 50,000 words you can certainly finish writing it. December 2004
With a lot of incredible support, encouragement and nudging, I managed to finish the challenge with 51512 words. Next is the editing portion and then I'll post the story. I'm continuing the story of Ilip started in Call of the Gods. Hopefully it won't be too long before I can post the story however it won't be until the new year, December is just too busy for me to tend to the story.

Well, after last year's successful attempt, I decided to try the challenge again this year. I figure that, since I edited my novel down to about one chapter in the NaNoEdMo challenge, I should be able to write the next chapter or two in the writing challenge and then edit it in March again.
Got some friends in the challenge this year, Madame Meow from NaNoEdMo, and Outchanter and Exjay from the Hero's School. So it should be a lot more fun as we compare results and encourage one another to keep on writing!!

December 2005
Well, once again I managed it. This time I had a burst of inspiration near the end of the month and along with that I wrote every thought that came to me regarding the story. I'll have quite the challenge in March with editing this monster but that's half the fun, right? For now though, I'm eager to do some other things for a couple of months. There was this thing called "a life" I was involved in before the challenge, I think. =^-^=

I wasn't going to do NaNoWriMo this year. I feel I have too little time to do as I wish anyway. However I love to write and while I doubt I'll achieve the challenge this year I wanted to keep my account open for the years to come. I know that I will try to write and with the USB key I have I can take my story with me to work as something to do there. Besides I can't resist a challenge. Not to mention the fact that this way I can continue the ongoing adventures of Ilip as she learns what being a paladin at a time when paladins didn't exist really means.

Signed up for NaNoEdMo (National Novel Editing Month) so I can get started on the editing/rewriting process of Forged by Fire. The goal is 50 hours of editing which breaks down to ninety seven minutes a day. So I can spend at least one hour a day when working and then make up the extra time on my days off. If I get going really well I can make the time before the deadline. Provided no calamities occur this time. If you're interested in learning more this is the link

Completed NaNoEdMo with a few days to spare and made a new friend, Madame Meow. She's cool!

My Poems

Every year I like to think up a new Christmas poem. Some years I do. Some years I don't. In 2003 I thought up 2 poems. I did write a poem for 2004 but I didn't like it and deleted it. Then I thought up another one. I've got one so far for 2005, hoping to come up with an inspiration for another one. Christmas Doings

My friend Taris was asked to write a furry anthem and asked for assistance with the words. So I wrote this for him. Furry Anthem

This was written for my two dear friends, Bud and Tymbre. You Are The One

This is more of a letter rather than a poem and it was written for my 20th anniversary. Our Twentieth Anniversary

This was written as an expression of how love makes me feel. One

A good friend, BearKnight, runs a convention around Halloween and was asking for anyone to help contribute to it. So I wrote him a theme song for it. I was hoping to get the music composed as well but that didn't work out. FurFright Theme

On the other paw, I did get inspired to write a few more Halloween poems. Halloween Poems 2005

January 2006 I received a certificate from the International Library of Poets naming "All Hallow's Eve" as the Editor's Choice of the Month. There was also a pin that they wanted to send to me. Too bad it isn't a legitimate organization. I had found their website before I found out how much they scam people into buying books and going to their conventions. Still, it's a nice picture, right?
I had a copy of All Hallow's Eve up on my desktop at school and it inspired me to write another poem for Halloween Ode to Hallow's Eve

The weirdest things can inspire me. When I get inspired it seems like the poems come more frequently. A lot of them I feel are not good enough to keep but some have potential. Sometimes, though, it is hard to get the right flow to a poem and it remains in a half-finished state until I get new inspiration. That's the state these poems are currently in.
My Eyes
Quick Thoughts

I was working on all these poems on the same night when I couldn't get to sleep and then polished them up over the next couple of days. It happens that way sometimes. Then I'll have other periods where I'll get one poem every couple of days for a while. It makes life interesting to find out what each burst of inspiration is like.
